Herbert Clarence Harris

Herbert Clarence Harris, 89, of Littleton, died Saturday, Feb. 27, 2010, at Halifax Regional Medical Center in Roanoke Rapids.

Mr. Harris was the son of the late Frank J. Harris and Owen P. Harris. He was also preceded in death by his wife, O’Neal R. Harris; and his sisters, Ann H. Barrigan and Bertha H. Warstler.

Mr. Harris was a member of Enterprise Baptist Church for 80 years and was a long time member of the Littleton Masonic Lodge. He worked with the U.S. Agriculture Stabalization Conservation Service for 20 years, was a farmer, and retired from the N.C. Department of Agriculture Cooperative Grading Service after 50 years of service. Mr. Harris was a Warren County commissioner for 8 years.

He is survived by his daughter, Gwen H. Jones and her husband, Tommy, of Roanoke Rapids; his grandson, Trase Jones, of Roanoke Rapids; his siblings, Harvey F. Harris and his wife, Edith, Mamie H. Willoughby, Willie H. Stoudt, Marjorie H. Coulter and her husband, Rufus, Dorothy H. Ford, and Robert T. Harris and his wife, Linda, all of Littleton, Maude H. Miner of Mclean, Va., Virginia H. Mohorn of Greensboro and Erma H. Champion and her husband, John, of Rolesville; 33 nieces and nephews, and numerous great nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. on Sunday, Feb. 28, at Askew Funeral and Cremation Services in Roanoke Rapids.

Funeral services will be held Monday, March 1, at 2:00 p.m. at Enterprise Baptist Church in Littleton with Rev. Darren Lambert, Rev. Randy Martin and Robbie Harris officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.

Memorial donations may be made to Enterprise Baptist Church or Camp Willow Run.
